My name is Nina and I am a freelance illustrator based in Oxford in the UK. I have always liked people and find them fascinating. I am always intrigued by peoples characters and stories and so I find them interesting to draw too. I have always enjoyed drawing women especially and I’m very interested in feminism, mental health, female empowerment and self acceptance. As I have grown older I have become increasingly aware of everyday sexism and I like to comment and reflect my feelings on this through my artwork. It is important to me that I show real people in my art, everyday women with all shapes, sizes, colours and interests and their issues too. I think that it is helpful for people to see themselves in art and see that their struggles and challenges are normalised, so that they can feel less alone. I also like to draw characters and people that interest me from pop culture and history. These are normally people who I see as strong yet relatable characters and empowered female characters.
The highlights of my experience as an illustrator have been being awarded as a finalist of the Lauren Childs Illustration Awards which led to my work being exhibited in St Pancras Station. I was also lucky enough to make the shortlist for the Northern Illustration awards 2019 and had my work exhibited at the Northern Festival of Illustration. Furthermore my work has been displayed at the DandAD New Blood Festival. I have been honoured to work with clients including; Nike, Marcus Rashford MBE, Lucy and Yak, Arts University Bournemouth, Jiggy Puzzles, R/GA by Design and many more.
